Who We Are: Looking Back and Moving Forward

Dream it.

It all began with an idea and a need. The Sullivan County Recreational Association was formed in 2006 with the vision of raising funds to build an indoor wellness center to serve Sullivan County year round, benefitting both residents and visitors to the county.

Grow it.

Over the years, the SCRA focused its efforts not just on fundraising, but also improving the existing recreational opportunities throughout the county. The organization funded soccer fields and Little League fields, sports equipment, and youth teams, plus more. All with the ultimate vision of bringing a wellness center to the county.

Share it.

The SCRA partnered with Loyalsock Foundation in 2019 and laid the groundwork to bring the dream into reality. With Loyalsock Foundation’s purchase and lease of multiple acres contiguous to the county’s sole K-12 school in Laporte, plans moved forward to focus the vision.

Create it.

Loyalsock Foundation has volunteers from across the county working to write grants, recruit support from government and business organizations, research health needs, develop programming opportunities, and build community support.

Build it.

Architectural concept plans have been developed to create a facility with the most impact on health and wellness in Sullivan County. Outdoor recreation components are being developed with plans for trails, an outdoor amphitheater, and more. The permanent driveway is slated for construction in 2024.

Love it.

We love Sullivan County, and we want our residents to lead healthy, vibrant lives. To get to The Summit, we continue to take one step at a time with our vision firmly in place. Although the climb may be steep, we believe in our mission.
