The Landing

What is The Landing?

The Landing is a public wellness and community space designed as a treehouse located on The Summit: Center for Wellness campus. The Landing will be a stand-alone structure, separate from the main facility. The ADA-accessible Landing will be open to the public and designated for educational programs, community meetings, nature exploration, exercise classes, and more. This project will provide immediate access to wellness opportunities for the Sullivan County community and surrounding areas. The Landing is part of Loyalsock Foundation’s outdoor recreation plan, which also includes an outdoor amphitheater and second loop trail. These components are in the design phase.

Loyalsock Foundation will receive $457,000 towards construction of The Landing through federal FY24 Community Project Funding, as recommended by US Senator Bob Casey. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025. Read what Senator Casey has to say about the project here.

Large glass doors on three walls of The Landing will open out to the observation deck for indoor-outdoor options. The upper level will consist of a single flexible space, suitable for classes, workshops, or exercise groups. The Landing will be accessible via an ADA pedestrian bridge leading to the upper level as well as a stairway from the lower level. An observation deck will overlook the natural rock ledge amphitheater.

The lower level of The Landing will be a sizable covered area with space for picnics, outdoor meetings, or simply relaxing in the shade. A restroom will be available on this level.

The welcome area and vestibule containing additional restrooms and cubbies on the upper level of The Landing will be accessible either by the stairs from the ground level or the pedestrian bridge.

An ADA pathway to The Landing will lead from a parking lot through a forested area to an intimate nature overlook. Signage along the pathway will describe the natural vegetation present and seating will be available. The path will continue through the wooded area to a second small overlook, also with seating, providing an opportunity to observe the natural landscape and continue to The Landing via the 130-foot elevated pedestrian bridge.
